چکیده

This paper deals with the use of the wave-radar for sea-state monitoring. The radar used here is popular as marine radar. SEA STATE monitoring by X-band Mare Radar system is becoming increasingly interesting, also due to its spatial resolution, which is much higher than the resolution of the relatively more common high-frequency (HF) coastal radars. In addition, compared to HF radar, Xband radar systems offer an improved operational flexibility; due to their small dimension, low weight, and easy installation, it is possible to install them even on a movable platform and from there to scan the sea surface with high temporal and spatial resolutions. The technique of high resolution two dimensional radar imaging is called as synthetic aperture Radar(SAR). SAR is implemented here to retrieve the high resolution wind and wave fields from image sequence. From the technological standpoint, the main interest lies in the adoption of a system installed on a movable platform; this feature is important since it offers a good flexibility in the choice of the spatial and temporal observation modalities. Operational analysis errors tend to be reduced slightly by our use of SAR observations in surface wind retrieval.

Extracting Fine-Scale Wind Fields from Synthetic Aperture Radar Images of the Ocean Surface

ork is described whose long-term goal is the extraction and analysis of fine-scale wind fields from synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images of the ocean surface. Results are based on a field experiment in which a SAR image was taken nearly simultaneously with in situ aircraft-based turbulence and radar altimeter measurements. These results show a direct correlation between SAR “streaks” and atmos...

Testing the Diagnosis of Marine Atmospheric Boundary Layer Structure from Synthetic Aperture Radar

My long-term goal is to continue to test and refine a similarity-based method for the extraction of marine atmospheric boundary layer (MABL) fluxes from synthetic aperture radar (SAR) wind-imagery of the sea surface. I have implemented this method on a limited number of SAR wind-images from off the east coast of the United States using bulk-derived statistics from coincident buoy data as ground...

High Resolution Remote Sensing of Ocean Wind and Wave Fields

The technical approach in this project involves three types of models: (1) the two-scale electromagnetic scattering model, which relates the radar backscatter to the surface wave spectrum, (2) the wave action model, which describes the relationship between the surface wave spectrum and the near-surface wind field, and (3) atmospheric dynamical models that describe or constrain the spatial varia...

Mapping of Mesoscale and Submesoscale Wind Fields Using Synthetic Aperture Radar

The long-term goal of the research effort to be described in this paper is to investigate the possibility of obtaining quantitative information about the near-surface wind field and perhaps other parameters that characterize the Marine Atmospheric Boundary Layer (MABL) from an analysis of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imagery. Because of its potential for obtaining such information, this appli...

Study of subsidence of Abarkooh plain of Yazd using the Synthetic Aperture Radar Interferometry method

Abstract The population growth, the development of cities, industry, agriculture, and improper use of resources especially non-renewable resources have led human beings to face the danger of running out of resources. In some cases, in addition to the above, irreversible environmental and geological hazards have occurred due to the overdrawn of resources. Over extraction of groundwater resourc...
